HGI Forms Strategic Partnership with Indian Navy and NWWA

Chennai, 28th March 2025: The Hindustan Group of Institutions (HGI) formalized a significant partnership with the Indian Navy and the Navy Welfare and Wellness Association (NWWA) through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The MoU was signed by Mrs. Shashi Tripathi, President of NWWA, in the presence of Commodore Urooj Ather, Head of Education. Col (Hon.) Dr. S.N. Sridhara, Vice Chancellor HITS signed the MoU, on behalf of HGI.

This strategic alliance aims to establish comprehensive educational and skill development initiatives between NWWA and HGI’s premier institutions – Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science (HITS) and KCG College of Technology (KCG Tech).

The MoU specifically outlines tiered fee concessions for three categories of Naval families: wards of naval personnel who have died in harness, wards of serving naval personnel, and wards of retired naval personnel.

Dr. Anand Jacob Verghese, Chairman of HGI, emphasized the institution’s deep-rooted military connections, “This partnership builds on our longstanding commitment to defence forces. With all three wings of NCC actively functioning on our campuses, we’ve consistently fostered the values of discipline and service that are central to military excellence.”

The chairman further noted that our numerous alumni have successfully transitioned into prestigious military positions across India’s armed forces, demonstrating the institution’s track record in preparing students for defence careers. Significantly, HITS already has a special scholarship policy for wards of military personnel that was instated last year.

“Our educational approach naturally aligns with military values. By extending these fee concessions, we’re not only honoring Naval families but also strengthening the pipeline of disciplined, skilled professionals who understand the importance of service to the nation,” added the Chairman.

The newly signed MoU includes provisions for significant financial support to make higher education more accessible to Naval families. These scholarships recognize the unique challenges faced by service families and honor their contributions to the nation.

The program covers a wide range of academic disciplines offered at UG level, including engineering, aviation, management, architecture, law, design, liberal arts and health sciences. Naval families interested in these scholarships can access detailed information through NWWA’s education department or by contacting HITS or KCG Tech directly.

The comprehensive support structure established through this MoU creates meaningful educational pathways for Naval families while building on HGI established tradition of military connections through its robust NCC programs and successful placement of graduates in defense positions.
