National: Athulya Assisted Living, India’s largest assisted living service provider and home healthcare service provider, on the occasion of World Senior Citizen’s Day organized ‘Staying fit @ 60+’, an initiative to promote physical fitness & well-being among Senior Citizens. The fitness program took place in the Athulya Assisted Living facility in Neelankarai, Chennai.
The initiative was aimed at spreading awareness on the importance of physical fitness among senior citizens and the benefits it brings to them. The activity saw the participation of 100+ senior citizens, who were trained under the supervision of experienced fitness experts.
The initiative also saw healthcare experts including nutritionists, physicians and psychologists educate the gathered senior citizens on the benefits of a regular physical exercise routine, the assistance required for these physical exercises, nutritional requirements to energize themselves, and caution on the possible risks to look out for.
Speaking on the initiative, Mr. Srinivasan G, Founder & CEO, Athulya Senior Care, said, “Senior Citizens often feel that physical exercises are not for them, they fear they might injure themselves and often resort to just resting and being inactive all the time. Physical exercises are an important aspect to physical and mental well-being, this applies to everyone including senior citizens. Although it is necessary to keep in mind that the type of exercises and degree to which they can perform varies a lot from young people and senior citizens are not aware of it. This is what motivated us to come up with the concept of ‘Staying Fit @ 60’, where we sought the help of fitness experts from F45 Training and Fitness Company and health experts from Athulya itself to educate elders on the right method to approach and indulge in physical fitness. “
“Athulya Assisted Living has gained a reputation for being the best place for respite care for senior citizens. We are now exploring different approaches to providing quality care activities to nourish the mental, physical, and emotional health of senior citizens. With the success of Staying Fit@ 60, we are confident to open doors to senior citizens outside Athulya to take part in this initiative in the future”, added Mr. Srinivasan.
Athulya Assisted Living currently operates at four locations in Chennai- Neelankarai, Perungudi, Arumbakkam, and Pallavaram and saw the participation of senior citizens from all the facilities.
